MLB continues to create strong digital hooks

This year the MLB has been doing some really cool things to connect the brand with their fan base. Instead of staying entrenched in tradition and sticking to what worked in the past, they are mapping new content avenues for professional sports leagues. This video (click here if you can’t view) just cracked me up and gets two thumbs up:

As a Yankees fan I am cringing at this video, but it’s certainly shows great initiative on behalf of Major League Baseball (especially in the wake of the Bryan Stow attack).

I love that MLB does stuff like this to connect players and teams with their loyal fan bases, but I still don’t understand why they prevent the distribution of MLB video across the web. Shouldn’t passionate fans be able to write, cite and link to some of the year’s greatest moments? I don’t get it.

    Thanks for sharing, Jeff.

@joebertino Its definitely interesting and well the sharing of the video is quite annoying. Hopefully other teams like your Yankees allow fans to buy the MLB package to watc games over the web for a fraction of the price of cable.

I anticipate them really looking at content sharing when the NBA and NFL continue to strike.

It’s interesting to see how big brands are connecting with fans – thanks for posting! We set up social media analytics for each of the MLB stadiums to determine which had the most digitally engaged fans – check it out:
